Air Jamaica got significant benefits for Heathrow slots

IN A letter published in the Tuesday, October 23, edition of The Gleaner, Jean Robertson references a slot transaction between British Airways (BA) and SN Brussels and suggests that the transfer price paid by BA was significantly higher than the price achieved by Air Jamaica in their transaction with Virgin Airways.

Unfortunately, Ms. Robertson misinterprets the reporting of the BA/SN Brussels transaction in that she assumes that seven slots represent one slot per day by seven days in the week. The measurement of 'slot prices' is based on the number of slot pairs per day, therefore, the seven slot pairs referenced in the BA/Brussels transaction in reality equates to seven separate take-off and landing slots per day. Ms. Robinson's misinterpretation is not uncommon; others unfamiliar with the industry have done the same.

New baggage requirements on Air Jamaica

Effective 11/1/07 for passengers flying in economy class the fee for over weight baggage will be increased from $25US to $50US: that is bags weighting over 50lbs or less than 70lbs. who has extra baggage the fee Also during December, passengers flying in economy class from Toronto to Kingston and from New York to Grenada and Barbados will only be allowed two pieces of baggage - each weighing no more than 50lbs. And from December 16 to 26 the same thing will apply on every route for passengers in economy class.

SUNDAY CLASSES!!!!!!!:(

I’m not ever going to take classes on Sundays again. It’s a killer. Especially since I work Mondays to Fridays and have other classes at nights from Mondays to Thursdays. That schedule leaves me with 1 day only; Saturday. Or when you look at it: it leaves me with no day. Basically I have to do everything else on Saturdays including studying. So am basically I working and going to school for 7 days each week. I can’t wait for the semester to be over. (Less than 2 months left. Thank god) I will do part time, I will take classes at other CUNY colleges that is near to my job but I WILL not take classes on Sundays or Saturdays…bad idea guys….. bad idea.
